Sourcing

At Black Jaguar we source our cacao exclusively from Ingemann Fine Cocoa based in Nicaragua.

Ingemann Fine Cocoa pays some of the highest farm gate prices in the world to their cacao farmers, working directly with over 5000 Nicaraguan families and contributing to Nicaragua's reforestation by planting over 1 million cacao and various shade trees.

Ingemann is committed to sustainability and creating long-term relationships with their producers. They collect cacao from the producers' farms in cash, and the producers can then use the money to buy food and other household items.

Two varieties of cacao in two different regions of Nicaragua;

One cacao variety that we work with is from the Bosawás Biosphere Reserve, the second largest rainforest in the Western Hemisphere. The reserve is home to an estimated 13% of the world's known animal and plant species, including the harpy eagle, Saslaya moss salamander, jaguars, and pumas.

The second variety of cacao worked with is from La Dalia, Nicaragua. This cacao is found is our Heirloom Preservation 77% Dark bar and is crafted from cacao beans given the prestigious designation from the Heirloom Cacao Preservation Fund, whose work to Discover, Identify, and Preserve Rare, Endangered, Fine Flavoured Cacao is a great Inspiration to us.

We have included below a few videos on the cacao producers in Nicaragua and the work done by the Heirloom Preservation Fund, enjoy the watch!
